Frequently Asked Questions:
illWhat is the most important thing I should be looking for in a producer, mixer, or mastering engineer?
The most important thing outside of skill is finding people who genuinely have your song’s best interest at heart. It is important to hire people who treat your song as if it is their own.
Can you share one music production tip?
Take care in each step of the process. A great final product relies on a well written song/arrangement, a well rehearsed musician, proper recording technique, and a mix and master that brings that performance to life.
What do you bring to a song?
I treat each song like it is my baby. As a songwriter and artist myself, I understand what your music means to you, and I know how important it is to put out music that you are 100% confident in. My number one priority is to give you a final product you can release with confidence.
Can you produce any genre?
I specialize in folk, folk-pop, acoustic, Americana, singer/songwriter, country, and pop music. I also make a lot of music for the sync licensing space (TV and film music). I try to be as versatile as possible so that I can fit the needs of many artists and songwriters. However, if I do not feel that your project is something that fits within my skillset, I will not take on your project, and might be able to refer you to a colleague who specializes in the style of music that you make.
Do you work with clients remotely?
Yes. I have worked with clients across the country, and even with songwriters from overseas. I have always found that with good communication, I can produce a song for anyone regardless of location. The only difference is that you will have to record your vocal from home or from a local studio in your area. I am happy to assist you to find a quality studio in your area. Studio time typically ranges from $50-$75 per hour.
Do you play every instrument on the song?
It depends on what the song needs and which direction we agree to go creatively. As a guitarist and pianist, often times I am able to play everything on a song. However, there are some situations in which a song would benefit by bringing in a hired session musician. Some examples of that are pedal steel guitar, or if the song requires live drums from a professional drummer. However, I would never bring on a session musician without your approval, but may recommend it if I believe that the song would benefit from it.
